These chlorinators clean off their own salt cell by reversing the polarity. It save you having to have a lot of acid being stored at your house so that you can clean a conventional cell. We use the LM3 series chlorinators from Zodiac. These are digital systems with easy set and forget functionality

To go that one step further the Duo clear has all of the features of the LM3 with the water softening properties of the Nature 2, leaving the water with a gentle soft feel.
